Tautog - You are correct in saying the trackside experience is much better than at home. Some would probably say I am mentally deficient as to me it is the place I would like to spend most of my time. We have a friend we call Cupola and you just can not replace the experience of listening to this guy. He was missing in action all winter and I asked him where he was. I got a 20 minute dissertation that had me laughing so hard tears were running down my face. It seems like the consensus so far is that there will be no effect. Maybe Ohio tracks can catch a break by people staying closer to home to gamble then travel to neighboring states. When I mention the autistic kid (there goes kid again) it means a lot to me as mine is learning disabled but not as bad. Anyway as soon as he sees my friend and me walk up to the bar he startsto point at us and laughing uncontrollably. The whole place knows him as his dad works there during the day and gambles with us at night. One time before Yonkers became a racino and it was really dead his dad went to the bathroom. When he came back more than $20 of his $30 was gone from the bar. He asked the bartender (mhrip) who wasn't too bright what happened to his money? He said Phillip bought everyone a round lol. It was so funny to see his expression I almost dropped. Cursed out the bartender for almost a half hour. So I'm with you I love spending my free time there and I am a spot bettor. It's socially a pretty good place to be to discuss even more stuff than racing. One time we asked the manager if Arods wife had that tshirt (cant remember what it said) on what would you do. He said I would throw her butt out of here pronto lol. Once again priceless.

Most trainers who ship do so for thier own convenience: fairgrounds or training complex is closer to home whatever, and besides the owners pay the shipping. So I see some shipping stables shrinking, as owners find trainers who stable at the tracks. Especially low end claimers. So, some will shrink, while other grow. Besides, as far as I am concerned shipping is an uneccessary expense and risk, when track stalls are free and available. Yes, more people will stay home, they already are. Personally I only venture to the track anymore when the race card is good, Battle night. (used to go twice a week). etc.. or we have something running.
It's a crime that the tracks can't run thier own internet wagering, as long as internet wagering is legal, why are tracks not allowed to COMPETE FOR THIER OWN BUSINESS! I'm sure there is a blood sucking lawyer out there that could make that case. Otherwise tracks owners could agree not to allow thier signals to be broadcast until they get a fair shake.

As a longtimeplayer I live 10 miles from my home track and enjoy the live race experience, people, hot puppies etc; I don't see why the home track and it's sister track can't have there own internet wagering and local broadcast of the nightly races. With the price of gas now I haven't been to the sister track in 3 years. Still go to OTB on occasion yet it still is not as good as the live experience. I didn't want to go to OTB last Sunday yet picked a couple of good winners, had I been able to watch and wager from home, might be different. We get alot more ship in's than we used to Matt Kakaley for example, Ken Holiday and now Keith Kash Jr is a permanent fixture here.
