When traveling back to Jersey this weekend, I stopped in my old home state for gas. As usual in the garden state the attendant came out and pumped it. One of the few states that does not have self serve.
The surprising thing it is one of the states with the cheapest gas. I paid $3.69 a gallon in Sussex county put had seen the price as high as $3.79 closer to the Meadowlands.
Does anyone value service. What is it worth to you.
Service good old fashioned service, something that is hard to find.
Myself I would go a little out of the way to have a place that was full service.
Question: In todays market place with all things equal , can one grow their business by improving service.
Take for instance a recent dinner I had a racetrack - The waitress was nonexistent and only came by the table during the race or with a minute or 2 left to post- needless to say they not only lost business on extra beverages or a possible dessert but her tip was drastically reduced.
Any comments

Any comments You find out about good service usually by word of mouth. It's like the bar and grill I go to they have great service, buybacks, and terrific food that's almost half the price for the same quality of 5 miles away. Even though the owner is there most of the time we tip him like he was an employee. But it's getting harder and harder to find. I was at McDonalds (took my son ouch) once and the manager (not from this country even though that doesn't mean a thing) insisted I ordered something I didn't. Well when I said give me your name I'm writing corporate she changed her tune mighty quick. Needless to say I haven't been back. Most of you know about how I feel about the hostess with the least at Yonkers I hardly go there anymore. One person can do that to you. Yet when I wrote to the VP of simulcasting at the Meadowlands he investigated my problem promptly. Signing off I think that I talk too much.
