Hi everyone. New to the forums. Was curious about who on here is a horsemen/women? Owners, trainers, drivers, breeders etc. I am stuck in the south, albeit a lot warmer then where you guys are, there is no racing, with the exception of about a week a year, fair racing, about 2 hours from me.
Just wanted to say hello to all and look forward to bsing with you! ;D

If you read the threads on the board you'll find a few more previous owners and a former daily handicapper of the Northfield races Chris and a present day famous Northfield capper Junior, The Giss still has a driver's license i think and a trainers license ( Jay is working on getting his trainer license ) .I owned a few in Canada 79-82 but never got my trainer's license , many times i wish i had Maybe you could tell us how you found the board , and how did you come by the name kassracing ? Let's not forget that one of our premiere handicappers, Jimhorseman, was a partner in ownership with his Florida friend(s) in 2006 into 2007.

Well, I found the website when i was thinking about coming out to Northfield with a stable of horses a few years ago. Started looking at it and found this part of the site recently. I used to train and have my Q license. I had a stable of up to about 15 horses. I was supposed to come out to Northfield about this time two years ago with 12 horses and had some really bad things happen in my life and ran as far away from racing as I could. To Georgia, the closest track being approximately 700 miles from where I live. I have a really nice trotting broodmare and two nice pacing mares as well as an Artiscape mare that should be qualifying first week of Feb, and am working on buying a horse that raced last night. I don't bet, but consider myself the worlds greatest handicapper! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to getting to know you guys and if I ever do make it out, dropping by and saying hello! Kassracing, my last name and racing.....or if you prefer Kick Ass racing! lol, nah not really!

Raced at Scarboro and the fairs as well as Rochester, NH. Most expensive horse in my barn cost $1,700! Most alot less. Racing in Maine at the time she made about $3,000 in the first two months. If you took away my drives, my training UDRS was about .375. Guess that tells you about my driving. lol

Kassracing - racing at Scarboro do you know Jason Bartlett. He is a friend that I stay in contact with. He has been at Northfield a couple of times to race a few of my horses. A great guy.
Been to Windsor once to visit and hope to do so again soon.

I know Jason. We aren't friends, more so acquaintances. I lost alot of respect for Jason as a person when after coming to Northfield and getting beaten up some(driving, not physically) as well as getting days, that he stuck his tail between his legs and ran home like a little child. I went out of my way and called some favors in from two trainers who owed me a couple at Northfield to give him drives, and he just up and left.
Jason is an exceptional driver, and learned from one of the all time greats, Donnie Richards. He is driving in NY and I look daily to see how he does at both Monticello and Yonkers. And he is doing fairly well, getting drives from a few of the big stables. I wish him only the best.
There are actually a couple of very good drivers in Maine who could very well drive pretty much anywhere, but if any of you knew Casey, they are a very strange breed(lol) and don't like to venture far from their native soil.

In respect to the value of horses, it really depends on what you are looking for. It isnt hard to make money in the short term, if you look to buy horses for classes. For example, at Northfield, I could probably go out tomorrow and buy two or three horses for less then $2,000 each and make money from them, short term, not using any drugs or doing anything illegal. Just racing them in the classes where they belong. This is especially true when buying horses from the East and bringing them in, but it has to be the right classes. Interestingly enough there are a few horses that are worth claiming, especially in the F/M $3,000 claimers, and would be willing to bet you see at least one or more on Wednesday. Id actually be shocked if it didnt happen. It seems from an outsiders perspective people are scared to claim off the like of Schillaci, Weller and Oliverio, but there are some of theirs worthy of being claimed, while others you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. This of course is purely in my opinion. And I guess thats what makes horse racing!

Do not be in a hurry to judge Jason. He stayed with me while out here and I can tell you there is more to the story than what anyone will tell you. I believe he made the proper call and I actually gained a lot of respect for him through the whole thing.

I shall take your word. He was driving your horses wasn't he? I actually was supposed to be right behind him coming out here. He came out late October, right? I was supposed to be coming out between the 2nd and 3rd week of November. My fiance died at Scarboro from injuries sustained during a riding accident. She trying to make her pet into a marshalls horse so we could bring him out to Northfield with us. After she died, I stuck my tail between my legs and gave up for a while. I guess everyone has their reasons for doing what they do and when they do.
