Saturday Night, February 20, 2010 Recap: Last month's contest winner and five time champion Cliff wagered everything but his last $25 Saturday night and gained some breathing room with a $1 superfecta in the fourth race worth $354.20. He currently resides at the bottom of the standings but don't count him out yet. Climbing upward from the bottom, Hundredtowin posted his third consecutive profitable night, capturing $680 on his string of $100 win wagers.
Going in the other direction, from the top towards the bottom, contest leader Trackrat and runnerup The Believer both posted small negative returns on the night but retained their respective positions on the leader board. Therealmuljuice liked the exacta combination of Flowing James and Lucca's Revenge in the fourth race but only to the tune of a $10 box, which returned $250 (5 x $50).
Good luck to everyone on the final week of the February handicapping contest with five racing cards left. The Cleveland Auto Show starts Saturday, February 27, an annual tradition for the Trackrat. Stay safe and stay warm.

Monday Night, February 22, 2010 Recap: As the board leaders continue their backward march to the sea, newcomer Hundredtowin seems to be hitting his stride with his signature wager, $100 to win. "Hundred" cashed $100 win wagers in the fourth race on #3 Fancy Schmansy for $250 (50 x $5.00) and in the seventh race on #3 Dragon Rider for $550 (50 x $11). Therealmuljuice keeps pulling out decent paying trifectas, this time collecting $475.20 in the eighth race, to go with an exacta box in the second for $150 and another trifecta in the third race for $83.80. Jimhorseman's $100 show wager on #2 Ohio Star in the third race produced $140 in winnings. Like Hundredtowin, Scojer liked Fancy Schmansy with a $50 WP wager that paid $210 (25 x composite $8.40).
A freezing rain is moving through Northeast Ohio this morning but should change to flurries later in the day. Should not be a factor in tonight's racing. Good luck and stay warm.

Tuesday Night, February 23, 2010 Recap: The midweek Northfield programs continue to be a mystery for most of our cappers but Jimhorseman seems to be breaking out of his lengthy slump, cashing $1703 in trifecta winnings to slip past The Believer into second place in the February handicapping contest. He is within striking distance of Trackrat, who has also faltered this past week after early success this month.
Therealmuljuice keeps cashing his $1 trifecta key wagers, this time to the tune of $429.20... not enough to cover his outlay but at least he's going to the cashier's window for something other than lottery tickets. Hundredtowin had a $100 to win on #2 Going Hollywood in the tenth race for $140 (50 x $2.80).
Good luck to everyone on tonight's card. Stay safe and stay warm.

Wednesday Night, February 24, 2010 Recap: With the handicapping contest in its final week, Trackrat extended his lead over the field with four consecutive winning trifecta wagers covering the fifth through eighth races last night, collecting a total of $1269 on his $498 capital outlay. Hundredtowin posted yet another $100 win wager with #8 Gone Shoppin in the third race (50 x $8.00). Early in the card, the outside post hit the board in four of the first five races.
Kangaroox cashed a $1 trifecta in the eleventh race for $27.20. Most of his MANY exotic wagers in that race were cancelled and contest cash refunded because of the scratch of the #5 Buzz Hershey, who had been racing very well before this scratch. Therealmuljuice collected $26.10 for his $1 trifecta ticket in the first race.
The early weather forecast for Friday calls for blizzard like conditions with significant snow and strong winds exceeding thirty miles per hour. Look for some travel scratches, but the show must go on!!

Friday Night, February 26, 2010 Recap: The Trackrat was the victim of his own weather report as I minimized my wagering last night because of massive anticipated travel scratches that for the most part did not occur. Meanwhile, I was ambushed by my Canadian counterpart, The Believer, who hit a $30 trifecta ticket in the fourteenth race for $1818 (15 x $121.20). The Believer takes over the contest lead by about $35 with only tonight's program standing in the way of his sixth handicapping crown.
Kangaroox also had the fourteenth race trifecta for $5, producing $303.00 in winnings. Therealmuljuice keeps cashing his $1 trifectas and still posting negative nightly returns, with $87.30 in winnings against $184 in wagers. If he ever strings em together, watch out. Harness27 rounded out the winning wagers with a $20 place wager on #2 Paint Wheel in the fourteenth race for $54.
And a final word on Jolly Holly. I've loved this horse since the first time she campaigned at Northfield and I believe Corky Jones used to drive her. Because of the weather last night, I never looked at the back of the program and missed a chance to cash at 13-1 odds. Oh well.
Good luck to everyone on tonight's contest finale. We'll start it all over again on Monday.

Saturday Night, February 27, 2010 Recap: The Northfield handicapping crown goes back north of the border as The Believer captures his sixth monthly handicapping championship with a come-from-behind victory over Trackrat, who led for most of the month, but not when it counted.
The final night of handicapping saw Therealmuljuice collecting two modest trifecta boxes and Trackrat cashing one $5 trifecta box, but no one posting a profit.
The March handicapping contest begins Monday night, March 1. Any board members who would like to join our regular cast of characters in this frustrating but fun endeavor, please PM myself or the Believer and we will add you to the contest board. Good luck to everyone on a new month and a new bankroll of $2500. Stay safe and stay warm.
