For those who might have missed the announcement in Smokin with The Giss, veteran handicapper and public relations dude Keith Gisser's relationship with Northfield Park has been terminated. Earlier in the year, his duties were reduced and now, the track is unceremoniously booting him out the door. The Giss has been a valuable and loyal member of the Northfield family for almost twenty years. It is sad to see him become a victim of the current track mismanagement.
Good luck to one of the Good Guys!

I did not like to see this post. I have always appreciated Giss's wisdom and comments on his selections and it was a help for my handicapping.
I wish the Giss nothing but the best and hope he will remain a supported and poster on this forum. (if we can ever get it back to how it was)
I don't know why Northfield continues to make these bad decisions without any consideration to the fans.
Why don't they do something positive like free weekend parking or free tv carrels (like many other tracks do)

Thanks guys- all is good. There were a number of factors involved in this and I am not sure unceremoniously is the right term. I am pretty busy right now with my HHYF duties (if you are on Facebook, you might check out Sweet Karen, our 15-year-old trottingbred who has her own page and posts there regularly. My reptile business, Herps Alive! has rapidly rebuilt itself and of course I am very busy for the next couple months with HS soccer coaching at Orange High School. But, if anyone needs a media relations, social media or PR guy on a part-time basis, let me know. I am always looking for additional clients, As an FYI, I will be doing winners circle interviews and smoking large cigars at Scioto Downs for Ohio Super Night on Saturday, September 10. If you are going to be there, stop by and say hello. I will also try to warn you in advance if I am heading out to Northfield for an evening.

Giss, by UNCEREMONIOUSLY, I meant they didn't have a going away party for you or CEREMONY recognizing your contributions and accomplishments in the service of Northfield Park and the harness racing industry. You did, after all, write the book about the history of Northfield Park. I know you were on the short list for a Pulitzer for that publication.

In the last 5 years,i'm not sure managment has made a correct decision so this just adds to the list.I still can't see what they are doing to put fans back into the grandstand.I guess they are just waiting out the slots. I'm sorry to see you go Giss, goodluck in whatever the future brings your way.And goodluck with the soccer team..

I've been going to Northfield Park since 1972, when my late brother in law owned a cheap trotter (Smokin Joe Sunday or something like that). I remember when the place was packed on Friday and Saturday night with RACING FANS having a good time.
Nowadays, the Northfield business model has apparently evolved into one that caters to the big bettors and compulsive gamblers who bet more than one track. Right now, they are cutting expenses while waiting for video slots to save them. In the interim, they are doing everything they can to disaffect true racing fans. But maybe it's too late.
By the time Northfield gets video slots and only video slots, Dan Gilbert's Horseshoe Casino will be open in downtown Cleveland, offering a full menu of gambling opportunities from slots to roulette to poker rooms. Why would you go to Northfield and overpay for bad service, bad food and a bad experience when you could go to a WORLD CLASS facility that you know Dan Gilbert will run?
