Tautog, As far as looking at the prices on the concession stands - you are probably correct with the regulars - they pretty much know what they are getting - a new person (not to many of those) will look. But everyone knows what they are getting and if the value is there and competitive. I look at the big picture - lets say a cup of coffee - if I have the urge and I am out and about and I know there is a starbucks around or Arabicca I will pay a little more for the enjoyment of having that cup. A good burger lets see $3 or $4 dollars for a glorified Mc'Donalds Type burger or maybe $6.95 or a little more for a great tasting burger with a good slice of a Kosher pickle on the side - tough choice. Beer $1.75 to $2.50 for domestic is acceptable in almost any establishment without question. A good steak will draw people with a price between $15 and $29 depending on cut and sides. (Look how many people flock to Outback and such for a little more than an average piece of beef) I do have dinner at the track but only when I do not have time to get a meal on the way of which I always spend a little more and feel like a had a much better meal. I am sure The Giss will agree - a good cigar is worth a few pennies more than an average one. Thats my 2 cents Thats exactly what I meant. Do you think a person is going to balk at even a $1 more a cup for good coffee? My friend called me up and said Yonkers just raised the price for a glass of wine to $8!!! Am I a little pissed? Yes but I will suck it up and still buy it. My classic line is "you get what you pay for'. There's a pizza place in Brooklyn called DiFaras that charges $4 (last time I was there it was $3) a slice. You can't even get in there half the time, the wait is over 30 minutes unless you are extremely lucky. The quality is that GOOD! Don't miss it if you are ever in NYC. One more point why the coffee will sell better. Ask a female she would buy a designer dress with the tag or for 50% less without and at least 8 out of 10 will go for the designer. I can't wait to go back to Ohio a beer here can cost from $3 to $7 depending where you go. I'm talking NJ not even NYC.

If you are having that beer at Northfield, it will be $4.50-4.75 for a Miller Light or similar beer. I'm pretty sure you can get a six pack for almost that much and stay home and bet the races on the computer. My idea of free popcorn has yet to be implemented. I know if I was sitting at the Sportsbar, eating FREE salty popcorn all night, I would be buying one beer after the other, instead of nursing one or two all night.

Guys , THE GOLDEN ARCHES just woke up after all these years and provides a premium coffee that is excellent . Taylor, you are right about McDonald's coffee. I don't know if you have any Bob Evans' restaurants in Canada, but they just started serving a "Signature" premium coffee. It's amazing how all these restaurants took the quality of their coffee for granted until their customers scurried over to Starbucks. Now, these same restaurants are responding to their customers.

Best thing about Toledo is the Tim Hortons near Perrysburg. Actually I think it is off the Buck Rd exit.

Rat and Jay I'm thinking of you since I'm at the ML.
Dunkin Donuts coffee
Small $1.25 Large $1.75 Extra Large $2.25
Not bad for NJ hope the premium coffee is working out over there.

Actually that is pretty good. I am sure that ML has an arrangement to rent that space and generates some sort of income with no real risk of losing money. Probably a win - win for all involved.

Tautog, I think Northfield's coffee is $1.25 for small and $1.50 for large, but the only expense to them is to add the brown food coloring to make it look like coffee. Here at my local DD on Ridge Road in Brooklyn, the large DD coffee is $1.89, so the $1.75 at the ML is probably just to satisfy the customer, an odd concept wouldn't you think?

Rat I don't have a clue as Saturday was the first time I looked at the price because of you guys. I have never seen them really busy so maybe that's why. After I set up the laptop I specifically went down there because of the coffee issue. I'm a morning only coffee drinker so I never buy any there. The ML is much cheaper than Yonkers but you can get a pot of coffee there and sit at the bar during the week. A bunch of the regulars don't drink and just leave the bartender (incompetent lol) a nice tip. If the coffee isn't any better why don't you try writing a letter to management and explain how long you have been going there and deserve better. Worth a shot imo only will take a few minutes. Tell them you are also boycotting eating there it's costing them more than the price of a cup. My eyes popped out when you said Brooklyn because that's where I was born and raised. Forgot there was a Brooklyn, Ohio lol.
