This is probably a mistake as many top drivers are missing and I haven't seen a Friday night card since early July but I promised Believer I would post my "numbers" selections for this card. I originally thought I would strictly go with my "numbers" selections but I did end up following the usual pattern of doing the numbers, consulting with my handicapping partner Jack and then using traditional handicapping methods make my early selections. I'll go through a little of that process here. My final track wagers tomorrow night may vary depending on scratches, driver changes and noticeably track bias (front holding, closers doing well, passing lane dead etc.)
Note: The lower the number, the better the speed rating!!
Race 1:
6) O Minnie Go +8
8) Chili Chonga +12
1) I Like Claudette +13
7) Cable Gram +17
4) Bonnie's Crown +19
9) Warrawee Gem +20
2) Hylite Lavec +22
3) Snuggle Weather +25
5) Aunt Frances +25
Jack's Take: "I watch these cheap trots every week and nothing can close. The winner will come from one of the top three horses at the half. I don't see any speed so I'm picking Hylite Lavec to go by I Like Claudette in the lane with maybe Warrawee Gen hugging the rail for third."
Jim's Take: Terrible race which won't get much of my money. O Minnie Go has been parked the last three quarters the final couple weeks and still runs better times than the rest. I know she only has three thirds in her 24 starts this year but I think if she moves early enough she can clear and win. I'll use Chili Chonga to follow O Minnie Go and run second with I Like Claudette hanging on for third.
My Wager: Tri 6/18/All
Race 2:
8) TC Shadow - 13
5) Masquerade Model - 1
7) Zim and Torre - 1
1) Lonehill Valvette +1
4) Best Be Lucky +2
3) Magical Punkin +3
9) Future Trouble +3
2) Rinestone Coddie +6
6) Dazzlingdownandout +10
Jack's Take: "I bet Best Be Lucky with Yuk out of the 8 hole last week and he snapped out of the gate. I guess I have to bet her back this week inside with Deaton. I'll probably use Lonehill Valvette for second just because she's on the rail. Rest of the field looks bad."
Jim's Take: Although TC Shadow is a huge "numbers" favorite those are based on the Ryan Stahl drives of June 11th - July 6th. I'd rather buy a beer at the bar than bet Frankie Harris out of an eigth hole. I think Best Be Lucky sticks out in this field. My "numbers" system uses the best three of the past 5-6 lines. I don't look at lines before a layoff. Best Be Lucky really couldn't be fairly rated. After winning her qualifier she ran a decent mile in 1.57.4 for a first start in higher company. The second start Thompson parked her the mile and last week as Jack noted she broke at the gate. With the drop down, Deaton in the bike and looking at that first mile with Thompson I think she is an easy winner. Lonehill Valvette gets Kakaley with his bike and the rail so I'll use her along with Masquerade Model, Zim and Torre and maybe TC Shadow in a tri key trying to get a decent price with a second or third place horse.
My Wager: Tri Key 4/1-5-7-8
Race 3:
2) Prize Parable -3
7) BL Paid Vacation +1
6) Miss Mac Miracle +6
8) TS Bitoffcenter +8
4) Sturdy Trouble +10
3) WhyBabyWhy +11
5) Miss Elegant +12
1) Salsa Sauce +13.5
Jack's Take: BL Paid Vacation looks like a single. I'd love to crush the exacta with Miss MacMiracle if it was JD instead of John Wengerd in the bike. Miss MacMiracle was making a nice leave last week when John Wengerd saw another horse leaving inside him and ripped the horse's head off to take her back. There is very little speed inside him so I'm hoping he just goes to the front. Prize Parable got stuck last week so I'll put him on my ticket. I could see Duane Miller closing for a piece. I'm going to key BL Paid Vacation with the 2,6 and 8."
Jim's Take: I agree with most of Jack's comments. I'm not a Keith Kash fan but I could see a scenerio where Schallaci with Salsa Sauce either breaks stride or is so ginger into the first turn that he could loop her and sit first or second. I think BL Paid Vacation will make a huge half move and am counting on TS Bitoffcenter to follow him as she shows nice closing abilitily when staying flat. I am going to make two bets this race. Using BL Paid Vacation on top in both tri's - first with 2/6/8 in a key like Jack and the second with the 2/6/8 with all for third as anything could happen in a cheap trot. Big race as I'll play pick three's as well.
My wagers: Tri Key 7/2-6-8
Tri Wheel 7/2-6-8/All
Pick Three 78/2456/56
Race 4:
5) Lady Truthful -11
4) Honeymoon Hudson -9
1) Armbro Wonder -7
2) Girly Power -7
6) Josephine Lee -3
7) Iwasborninamudhole -3
8) Proud To Be Me 0
9) Sheza Hoosier +1
3) Lady Astray +4
Jack's Take: Honeymoon Hudson is the only horse dropping and goes from Lanny to Aaron so that will be my lukewarm choice. I thought Josephine Lee had a nice first start in the slop last week so she'll be on my ticket. I'm also going to use Sheza Hoosier. The one line with Aaron isn't bad as she was parked the mile from the seven hole and only a nose out at the three quarter. I'm not a Tony Rose fan so I think being inside with Kakaley makes this horse a possibility. Armbro Wonder has the rail and can't be as bad as recently shown. I'll use some combination of those four in a tri or a super bet."
Jim's Take: Four of Honeymoon's Hudson last five races have gone 1:57 or better and that is out of this horse's class. Honeymoon's last halves in those races have all been under a minute which are better closes than the rest of the field. That is hidden by the better competition she has faced. I too will make Honeymoon Hudson a lukewarm choice. I'm not using Armbro Wonder as I think she has gone sour. Girly Power showed a little close off the scratched sick and should be better this week. Lady Truthful seems to have peaked a few weeks ago but may still have enough to hit the ticket. Josephine Lee may be the sleeper in here.
My wager: Superfecta 4/256/256/All
Race 5:
4) Borabora Jana -22
6) Expensive Di -20
5) Merely Mystical -16
1) Tequilla -13
2) Jayci Honey -13
7) Judge Sadie -13
8) Scooter Rockette -8
9) Jena Advance +5
4) Breannes Honor +12
Jack's Take: I'm boxing three horses this race. Jayci Honey can't be as bad as her last couple races and I'm looking for her to come back. Expensive Di ran a huge race last week and I like her to win. I'm throwing in Jema Advance. This is the same angle that Borabora Jana first had. Tony Morgan bought both horses from Adam Short and Dennis Cheesebrew trained both. After an iffy first start Borabora Jana ran huge for two months before being claimed. Borabora is in this race and it will be interesting to see if she runs better in Wengerd's third start. Despite an 8th place finish the week before in lower company at Raceway Park Jema Advance was the favorite from the seven post last week. That makes me use her again this week."
Jim's Take: Expensive Di owes me a lot of money as I've bet her on top each of the three times she ran second in the past five weeks. It will probably happen again. Expensive Di ran big with Palone after a race at Buffalo Raceway where whe pulled first over against a huge outside track bias. Last week; per Jack, she ran big again against the sloppy outside track bias. Merely Mystical interests me. Her last race was at Buffalo where she left for position and then after sitting second in a slow half lost a three horse photo for second & third despite an unusally fast 58 second last half at Buffalo. I could see Thompson leaving in this field and getting good postion again. I don't like Jayci Honey as she hasn't been right since being blown on on July 7th winning in 1:56. Those races often take a toll on a horse and I think this is a good example. Tequila interests me as she made a nice middle move with Merriman two starts back and then couldn't close much from 9th at the half in the slop last week. Rail and Aaron again keeps this horse close. I need to see a big race from Borabora Jana at this level before I go to her. Same with Jema Advance.
My wager: Tri 56/156/All
Race 6:
9) Iamgonnabeachyou -21
7) Hawaii Connection -21
2) Sassys Surprise -20
4) I am Samsational -19
1) Firstrobinofspring -18
3) Puff -18
5) Justina Jones -16
6) Imagine Freedon -9
8) Southwind Wesly -9
Jack's Take: Firstrobinofspring had no excuse last week. Sat pocket and was empty. Likewise with Iamgoingtobeachyou who was easily passed last week despite reasonable fractions. I like Sassy's Surprise with Deaton back on this week. I am Samsational should be better inside on a fast track. My sleeper is Southwind Wesley. I saw her start with Tony Hall and his bike on June 29th and she was parked the mile pushing all the way and still won easily. Aaron and the bike makes her a threat this week."
Jim's Take: Wide open race. I too will go to Deaton and Sassy's Surprise though I'm a bit leary with the class rise. I would like Iamgonnabeachyou but respect Jack's opinion that this horse may be on a downslide. I won't bet Popio out of the seven hole with Hawaii Connection. I Am Samsational won a couple starts back in this class and was beaten the last two weeks by a horse now in the open.
My Wager: Pick three 249/2/2379
It is getting late and I'm such a slow typer this is taking me waaay too long. I'm not sure how much interest there is in my process and analysis of the races. I'll briefly post the numbers system for the last half of the card with Jack's picks, my picks and maybe a line or two of comment.

Note: Game Marion just qualified off a couple month layoff. I like her last race where she was parked to the quarter and passed three horses late to be second. Could be ready in third start backfrom layoff. My numbers like Prettylittleangel but she missed by a head three starts back in a blowout mile of 1:57 and looked sore in her last two. JJ's Lucky Lady was purchased by Deaton. She had a terrible mile and then three weeks off. Her high rating is from pre-sale races. Could be tough if Deaton got her right again. Rail is morning line but Pat Smith with a horse moving from a big track to the rail on a half mile track scares me. I'll pass.

Comments: Cup of Tea looks like best bet of the night. The only hesitation I have is the tendency for two hole trotters to break stride. Jack caught Emkco Maria at nice odds a few times earlier this year so he is backing up with her. I should probably back up but I don't see a break in stride on Cup O Tea so I'm going to single her and probably regret it after the race.

Jack's picks: 9-2-1
Jack's Comments: Once Pat Smith got off the horse Belle Buckley ran three nice miles. Three starts back a big 1:57 mile with Stahl. Last two weeks had 8 hole. Despite being parked mile last week was still less than a length out in 1:28 at three quarters. I'd love the 8-1 morning line on this horse but expect to get 8-5. I'm using Precious Alibi based on her July 14th line, inside post, good driver and the fact I've seen the rest of them run. Watch out for Talk of the Party. I thought she ran second last week despite questionable effort. If she's bet unusually heavy I put her on top."

Jack's comments: "Beencaughtstealin won easily last week. Yuk could have gone by Flaming Trick whenever he wanted. I see a similiar scenerio this week where it could line up Flaming Trick and Beencaughtstealin again. This time I think Yuk moves earlier. I Like Tye Loy's horse on the drop and think she will be on the ticket if Tye makes an effort. Tye is known for not hurting his horses and may not push this one from an eigth hole."
Jim's Wagers: Superfecta 5/348/348/All
Jim's comments: Tough race. I like Lula's Dragon if she leaves which I think she will. Really taking a flier with mainly "system" picks in trying to catch the super.
There it is, sorry about brief second half. To Jay, BW, Jon, Harness 27, Believer, Junior and anyone else I missed who post selections daily God Bless You. The time and effort is enormous. In a way, I hope these picks are lousy so I won't feel guilty about not posting in this much detail in the future.

Jim's wager: Tri Key 9/1-2-4-5 and if I have any money left may add a tri of 9/1245/all/

Jack's picks: 9-8-5
