Trackrat: Catch a Dragon? Really? I suppose anyone can win at a harness track but Catch a Dragon? Last year about this time I wrote an extensive commentary about NY Horses; really horses shipping in from the Buffalo/Batavia circuit and why they performed so poorly in their first starts at Northfield . I still stand by that analysis. I think one of the best December angles is betting against these ship ins. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw that Drop Zone was bet down to 6-5 in this past Wednesday night's third race. I may not be able to pick the winner in a race where a Western NY first time starter is even money but I like putting money into a race where I can throw the heavy favorite out. The only exception to the Buffalo/Batavia rule; in my opinion, is when Kash Jr has one of HIS horses in. This is primarily because these are mainly former Northfield horses returning and Kash Jr knows how to adjust his driving style when coming back to Cleveland. Catch a Dragon is not a Kash Jr horse but rather he is catch driving for Bob Gruber; a Buffalo based trainer. If I was trying to upset Patty Jodine in that race and had to pick a former Buffalo horse I'd try Free For All off the rail. Free For All had a mark of 1:53 earlier this year at Northfield. Her ownership has been transferred to local trainer Priscella Mooney who knows how to get a horse ready for this racetrack. Free For All had a decent race over the surface last week which should help tonight. Also, Free For All was running in higher company with more success at Buffalo/Batavia than Catch a Dragon was at year end. It has been so busy where I work that tonight may be the last card I bet in 2007. Trust me I will not be placing any of the Buffalo/Batavia first starters first or second on any on my tickets. Ok, now that I'm done pummeling my hopefully still good friend Trackrat on to my selection for the one race contest. Race 7: $60 Exacta 6-2 $20 Exacta 2-6 $10 Trifecta 6-2-3 $10 Superfecta 6-2-35/35 Total = $100 Good luck to all tonight !!!
