I first got interested in harness racing back in the mid 70s and these were the drivers that I used to see at Northfield:
1) Don Irvine Jr 2) Bill Zendt 3) Jerry Ross Jr 4) Doug Hamilton 5) Mel Turcotte 6) Gerry Bookmyer 7) Lew Williams (what a great talent!!)
Doug Hamilton used to be my favorite, although he wasn't the best driver. He had Kelly Combat, who was a great horse on a sloppy track.

I remember some of those names! Thanks for bringing back pleasant memories! BW Lew Williams might have been the best that ever raced at Northfield but then he went to the Meadowlands when it opened and then he had that fatal tractor accident.

You got it giss.......man, those were some good old days. Another was W W Ubley(sp). They raced a $10-15Kclaiming handicap--- WW Ubly, Scotch McKlyo, CB Duane, Fosdick, EDU and a few who drifted in and out (Well Arion sticks in my mind). The fave was always 3-1 or 7-2, they rarely had the same winner twice in a row. As balanced a group as ever raced here (and for several months)
