For those local folks who travel 271 south to get to Northfield, there is a billboard on the right side of the 271, approaching Forbes Road. Now, it is a digital board, I think. But back then, it was an ordinary billboard.
Anyway, one night I'm driving to the track and I notice the billboard and it has an ad for Virginia Slims' cigarettes with their slogan "You've come a long way baby." The ad sticks in my mind.
When I get to the track, I see that there is a horse with those words in her name, racing that night. I looked at the program probably a dozen times, but could not convince myself to bet enough a hunch $10 on it. Well, you know the rest of the story. She came in, paid $21 as I recall. I hate when that happens.

I hate when that happens. In the late seventies, George Ursitti had a horse called Barracuda. $3 claimer, basically. Any time we were driving to the track, if the Heart song Barracuda came on, we would bet him. It seemed like he only won if that song played.
