Thanks for the congrats but I really didn't pick the horse it was the trainer. If it wasn't for Harness Eye I would have never seen that the trainer was hot. For me the extra buck or two for the info they give is well worth it. Plus I get to read Giss once in a while I like his columns. I had a $150 horse early in the meet also but as far as NF goes I'm cold as can be. Every horse I pick in the one race challenge I actually bet even though they are reaches to try and hit a bomb. How many people on here actually follow trainers, win percentage among trainers, driver switches and my favorite handicapping tool racing on the outside for the whole race and not losing any or less than 1 length in the stretch. One more angle I love (worked at the Meadowlands Sat) is when a horse comes back with less than 7 days rest and moves up in class even though they didn't win. The 1 and 2 in the 10th met that criteria tonight but stupid me only bet the 2 to win.
I wonder how people in here feel about that? Is Harness Eye worth the extra money to you. In the flats they have these sheets called thorograph that costs $25 a track. I always argue with my friends that if I go into a contest it won't be without them. Normally I give them a pass it is expensive.
You are a great bunch of guys in here but we could use more dialog it seems threads die fairly quickly. I love talking horses, angles, systems, and the most important thing of all money management. So lets keep these threads rolling k? I might even make a trip out to Cleveland (my wifes sister lives near there great excuse) and go out for a night, So what is she sees a lawyer lol.
Oh one more thing my friend says no way will Yonkers takes 10 cent supers from NF, they don't do it for the Meadowlands. I'm sure other tracks do the same. All that is doing is making people call up their accounts and use it that way not smart in my opinion.

Tautog - when I lived in Jersey I purchased the harness eye religiously as well as The Star Ledger- living in Northeast Ohio the Harness Eye is not available and newspaper coverage of horse racing is non-existent.

Tautog:
The dialogs will start heating up in January. Quite a few members of the board who post regularly (myself included) are in careers/businesses that are very time demanding around the holidays. In my case I work for the Postal Service and December means 10-12 hours a day six days a week. With family responsibilites added it leaves minimal if any time for handicapping/posting. In January the contest will start again and that will get more eyes on the board. Congrats on your win and I think we'll all look forward to your participation throughout 2008.
By the way, I loved the Harness Eye. Years ago there was a newsstand that would reserve me a copy each day and I would pick it up coming from work each day. Alas, the newstand was sold and demolished to expand parking for a near by business. Like Jay, it is difficult to get the Harness Eye in my area (Suburban Buffalo, NY). There are a few old time newsstands that still carry it but they are quite a distance from where I live & work. Every once in a while I'll see a Harness Eye at the local racetrack. Fortunately with the internet having programs two days in advance it mitigates the loss of accessibility to the Harness Eye.

Timing is everything. Last week, in the "one race challenge", I chose #5 Amish Mafia with Matt Kakaley aboard at about 7-1. The trotter broke and was never a factor.
Tonight, with the less talented Jason Thompson driving, Amish Mafia wins at 11-1.
The Trackrat's timing has been off all year.

>> tautog ...somebody has to ask ..how did you come up with your name ? You aren't the first nor the last person to ask that so here goes. I have been on the internet since 1992 before the WWW. I started with the name bacala which is salted codfish I was a big time salt water fisherman. Anyway I used to get emails from Italy from people thinking I'm a different person because of that name. There was really no spam back then. So I started using tautog which is the name for a fish. But in NJ they mainly call it blackfish. Back in those days you never needed a number after your name lol. It was also a submarine during World War 2. Here's some links about both. www.capemaytimes.com/fishing/blackfish.htmusstautog.com/So that's the story of tautog but if you want to call me by my real name it's Mark.

I buy the program almost every day so I'll be glad to enter even though I'm cold as hell at NF. When you guys pick I always give each horse a good looking over. If you know the track it's easier to pick up on certain things.
Since there is no Harness Eye out there if anyone ever wants a scan of the hot drivers or trainers at YR or Meadowlands I would be glad to email them to you. I can compress them so their pretty small. A single race would take two scans but I can do that also. HE has great lines for most major tracks.
Do most of you have off track accounts? If so which tracks are your favorites? I go to Yonkers but mainly bet other ones I'm just more comfortable there with the people I know. The funny thing is I pick up my friend and in 8 minutes we pass the Meadowlands and drive right on by.
I just have to tell one more story that it's not all about handicapping but also good will. A guy I know brings his son (he's 42) who is autistic to the track once a week. He is so happy to see me because I make him laugh, sometimes he actually winds up crying. I have missed betting many a race because I spend time with him I don't care what people at the bar say but the regulars love what I do. My friend is in charge of special education kids in the bronx and he says what I do is wonderful I missed my calling. So it was great to see pics of your drivers giving gifts out to kids. That warmed my heart to no end.
The moral of the story is how many of you have bonded with other people at the track and the friendship turned out to be more than horses?
I will get you guys to post more. ;D
