Hey guys, I need some input. I am playing with the idea of a crazy promotion on Wednesdays-- take one division of nw$200ps trotters and have them race heats-- say the 2nd and 5th races or 5th and 8th--don' want both heats in the Pick Five, maybe even offering a daily double on the two heats.
Questions- as a fan/gambler, would it interest you? What upside/downside do you see?
As a horseman, would you rather race twice in one night or race back Wed-Sat or Tue-Fri.
Posts would be drawn in advance, as usual. Or do we provide preferential draw based on finish (a logistical nightmare for simulcasting, but we are trying to look at all possibilities).
Let me hear your thoughts.
A horse who breaks in the first heat to giver him multiple breaks would not go on the list until after 2nd heat.

It would definately spice things up a bit, I think it wouldn't hurt to see a trial run and then make opinions known later.

I'm not all that fond of heats on the same night, especially cheaper stock where form and condition is already a question. There seem to be plenty of NW $200 trotters and pacers. I'd rather see two nine division heats in week one with both divisions being superfecta races. The top four from each division plus the 5th place horse with the better time would then race the following week for a slightly enhanced "finals" purse. The other 5th place horse could be the AE.
My reasoning:
With each heat a superfecta race and all entries trying to get into the finals horses will be racing hard even for 4th place, perfect for the superfectas where 4th place figures into the bet. This should make it a higher waged race.
With an enhanced purse final (Maybe $2,500 or $3,000 vs the usual $2,000) that race should also be competitive with all horses making maximum effort. Another "good" betting race.
I would make sure the finals post positions are strictly by draw and not assigned. This way there is no question of a horse happy to finish 3rd or 4th so they are assigned a better post for the higher purse finals.
Any thoughts?

I like the idea if it doesn't involve the Pick 5...maybe the 10th or 13th race with superfecta wagering once or twice weekly....I like the extra challenge and higher payout factor. I agree with Jim's idea of strictly drawn PP

Giss:
I'm blushing from your comment. Please feel free to propose the idea and call it your own. This is not really an original gimmick. Often there are racing series where points are earned over a period of time and then qualifiers race in some type of higher priced finals. I just like this method because it is quick (done in two weeks) and can easily be promoted and tied into the superfectas. It enticies all betters; including those who make smaller wagers with ten cent supers, and gives the horsemen a little bit of a higher purse to shoot for.
Hope some variation of the above comes to pass.
