Anyone else find the making the horses go in circles before the start for 3-4 minutes outright ridiculous? Call the horses to the gate and start the race. None of this waiting for the last money to come in. And if you are going to wait that long, at least make sure the starter is on board with it and has the horses not just sitting there. I have seen many tracks slow the start of the race, but none as bad as Northfield!

I have seen many tracks slow the start of the race, but none as bad as Northfield! Nobody makes them go in circles. The drfvers attempt to anticipate the call...once they are called, they go right to the gate. And as a horse owner, if you don't want to wait for the last money to come in, be prepared to race for a $14-1600 minimum purse.

Just another reason Northfild is losing more fans........Nuff said Do you realize the NF is more popular than Yonkers or Balmoral with the betting public? Actually once you get used to it there is an edge betting with no time left. There are hardly any new racing fans and it's not because of the delayed start. Take a look around the track and there is no youth. They rather play poker online or pursue other things. I met my friends kids who are in college at Yonkers once and the only thing they liked was the food. They never came back. Simulcasting and slots are the only thing saving racing now and NF only has one of them. Giss is right ask the owners what they prefer. What's better a delayed start, reduced purse, or a closed track? Please chime in if anyone thinks I am out of bounds on this.

Let me ask you this Giss for I don't know. Why is it then, with the handle being so substantial the purses are only $2,000? Who is the ones making the major benefits from the the wagering dollar, it sure isnt the horsemen......
Now about them going around in circles, could that have something to do with them actually having no idea when the hell the race is going to start? Ahhhhh, thats right post time isnt post time at northfield....

Now about them going around in circles, could that have something to do with them actually having no idea when the hell the race is going to start? Ahhhhh, thats right post time isnt post time at northfield.... It is remarkable how many time I need to explain this, and it is a concern that it seems that horsemen simply do not understand. The vast majority of our handle is from outbound simulcast. We get 3-4 cents on every dollar for that, split between state, horsemen and "the company." For wagers live wagres on track, we get about 21 cents, split basically the same way. So, we need to handle $6 off-track to equal $1 wagered on track. For incoming simulcasts, we get about 17 cents on the dollar, or 4.5 times as much to purses, etc. In other words, your dollar bet at Northfield on Yonkers, for example, is more important to purses than someone else's five dollars bet in Peoria on Northfield. Hope that helps. Congrats on Beach Escape's win last night!

Then why arn't you filling up seats at Northfield then??? You need to offer old and new fans a good reason to come to the track!! Otherwise they will bet from the comfort of their home!!

I still think that a wet t-shirt contest on a Wednesday night in the middle of the summer would pack the joint. Who cares about whether there are any horses left racing?

I still think that a wet t-shirt contest on a Wednesday night in the middle of the summer would pack the joint. Who cares about whether there are any horses left racing? Which is why you are all lined up at the booby bars, right? The proliferation of racing and the convience of home wagering have made it near impossible to return to packed stands. Get your heads out of the sand and stop blaming Northfield Park, stop blaming horsemen.......change which matters in this state will only come from COLUMBUS! We've been preaching it for years! Kassracing, we've yet to have the pleasure of meeting but you and I have a very good friend in common....I'm sure in the near future we'll have a chance for me to explain in further detail the continual struggle Ohio horsemen and racetracks have against a HUGE anti-gambling faction which pentetrates this state........hopefully the pool will be warm and MP will have some yummy snacks and TP will have a little Crown Royal left before we delve.
