Once I was listening to TVG and some host said he was more comfortable on betting longshots if some of his fellow cappers on the program agreed with him. I never thought about it but he's right on the money. I like a bomb in the 4th race and The Believer also has him on top. When I see people's picks on here that match mine I actually feel better with the selection I have made.
Thoughts?

There has been more than one occasion when either Longshot Mike or myself have said to each other I got a bomb that has a shot tonight - to see that the other has him picked to use also.
So I for one can affirm that I do some times feel more comfortable when a fellow capper is picking one without any discussion or influence from myself.

Same goes with me - I will still use my numbers above others, but I am more apt to wager a little heavier on a long shot horse if Jay, The Believer, or others like him too. I will also use others' picks in configuring my exotics - Just last month I hit a NICE super when I combined Jay's picks and mine!

Sometimes we think we have spotted a longshot when we look at Northfield's morning line and their track person has a horse at 8-1 or 10-1. On MANY occasions, that morning line longshot becomes the fan favorite, like Eagle Creek Patrol tonight. Often, it is the value in the morning line odds that draws our attention to that horse in the first place. Invariably, we lose those long adds long before post time.

I agree with the those who commented on this string but think Trackrat made a strong point as well. I have a fellow handicapper I go over a card with and if we both pick the same longshot it does give me more confidence to use that horse a little more heavily. At the same time I can't tell you how many times I sit waiting for a longshot later in the card and when the race arrives the horse opens up as the favorite. Morning lines are just guesses of what the public will bet and often don't hold. I just made my first pass through Friday night's card and there are three horses I like to win that are listed at 10-1 morning line. My guess is that my friend will also select two of the three horses and the post time odds will be 4-1 or less. I know I'm a lone wolf on the third of the bunch which has a legitimate chance of going off at much more than 10-1. If the weather clears and the track is fair Friday night I'll be trying all three of them and hoping to catch at least one of them.

I can't tell you how often I will call up Jay and say I have the longshot of the night and then he will say is it the blah blah horse in the whatever race and he gets it before I even tell him and I paticularly like when Jay and I have a common longshot that we both like that happens to be in the middle of the pick 3 or 4, that way I feel you get more value prior to the betting public jumping on the band wagon and bringing down the odds. Those types of wagers tend to pay more.
