Heck it's cold here in Vegas too. Had to turn the heat on a week or so ago, and dig around to find some long pants. (Gee, I know I have a pair or two here somewhere.) Even had a freak snowstorm this past week (three inches that actually hung around most of the next day), first measurable snow since 2003, and the most that accumulated since 1979. Kids loved it, the rest of us muttered expletives.
Observations on a cold, snowy Sunday (12/21) night of racing. I didn't handicap the card, but I did watch the races from home. That was a good excuse not to go Christmas shopping, he he.
"You know honey, I need to watch these critters for future reference. You go and have a good time." Whew, that was a close one.
Four year old trotter, Bankers Dream, certainly looks like he's benefited big time from the barn change. He should move right on up the condition ranks. Probably no price on this one for a long time.
Keith Kash, Jr. gave Hog Wild Rodeo an absolutely horrendous trip, and he still whupped a bunch of three claimers. I would expect his connections to move him up, before someone claims the soon to be four year old.
Buzz Hershey, another who has come to life with a recent change of scenery, was impressive once again. I became a believer tonight. No pun intended, Taylor.
Under "ya gotta be kidding me", how does a horse like Dude Love go off at 1 -5 ? I mean, in those weather conditions and with a driver change, c'mon now. I watched the board change, looked like a couple $2 grand bets hit, one early, then one later on. These are tough economic times, but I guess someone has some extra cash laying around. The other pools didn't reflect that kind of confidence, so it was just a couple heavy bets to win. It will be interesting to see what kind of action the horse gets the next time out.
In another head scratcher, how can a horse leaving from the eight hole (ok, it was really the seven with the inside scratch) spot the field eight or ten lengths at the start, come roaring back on the outside all alone, win, and run the fastest race of the night? Of course I'm speaking of Townline Roll On in the 14th. I mean, he looked a little steppy before the start, but once he started pacing he was true to his name, and just absolutely rolled on. With his kind of stats it seems as if he can terrorize the lower level of conditioners for a good while.
