Keith , i think the judges missed the call on the #3 horse , he broke and ran a good distance in the stretch without losing ground. I did have the ex and tri if they set the 3 back for failure to lose ground while on a break !

It also looked as if he went inside the pylons before he broke. JMO

Taylor, for once, I benefitted from the judge's call. I had a $2 exacta and a $1 trifecta to start out the night. While the #3 did break in the stretch, he did not GAIN any ground until he recovered. Is the rule that the breaking horse must LOSE ground or is it that it cannot GAIN ground on a break?

To answer the Trackrats question- one of the violations of the breaking rule is failure to lose ground on a break. I don't believe he did, I also think he went inside the pylons.
But remember these are judgment calls.
On another note if I had my pay and benefits cut, my decisions would not be on top of my game, why should they be. Can't get fired who will replace you can not attract talent for half pay.

Jay, you are right, it is a judgement call. Angus clearly lost MAXIMUM forward progress but he was still going forward on the break. I'm thinking it was easier for the judges to rule the way they did than to try and figure out where to place Angus if they took him down. There were 3-4 horses within a length of him when he broke. Do they take him down from 1st to 2nd, 3rd or 4th? With my previous racing luck, 99% of the time, he's taken completely off the board. But this time, I got a break, no pun intended.

When I watched the race live, my only question was hor far Angus was coming down. As I watched the channel 11 view (judges replays) I started having doubts that he would. It looked to me like he did lose ground within a step or two of the break and then he got back trotting. The more I watched the video, the less sure I was of a placing. This was a close call that could have gone either way, but I don't think the judges missed it. I did not see a pylon infration, but I wasn't looking for it. And yes, Mike, for the third straight night i gave out a tri key or box in race one that paid very well. I did not bet any of them myself.
