You are looking for villains where none exist. Yes there are rules in place against talking on the track among drivers and often there are fines......but take into consideration the circumstances. 1-Drivers will often have needful communication with one another........noticing an equipment problem is one which comes to mind.......keeping informed on the actually post time is a HUGE factor, especially at Northfield. 2-Do you actually think if there are shenanigans to take place they are going to happen 2 or 3 minutes before a race? And when you have seen this talking and long shots hitting the board have you noticed any of these "shenanigans" taking place during the race which should be called to the judges attention? 3-The track conditions at Northfield have been near horrendous for almost a month. One of the biggest reasons for these long shots getting home is their ability to handle or not handle these conditions........and a horses ability to do the handling can change from week to week. 4-The reason why I am even commenting is because I FIRMLY believe lack of communication between horsemen and patrons has lead to MANY perceptions which are far from reality.

Amy, good points above and I am not gonna pick fight here, but, PERCEPTION IS REALITY. FACT- the guys are doing far too much talking on the track, imo, and the judges need to crack down. They are probably discussing whether to go to Northfield Inn or Spenatos for dinner or what they thought of Lebron's buzzer beater, but the appearance of impropriety is the problem. I hear what a lot of the say in the club turn and it IS totally innocent.

Giss, you might be right with your statement that PERCEPTION IS REALITY, but I have to admit that I am either naive or someone who has not been jaded by what occurs on the racetrack because I don't care if these guys are talking to each other while they are warming up. You are right, they are probably talking about where they are going for dinner and beers after the races. Now, if they were on their cell phones while warming up, that's another thing. By the way, are cell phones prohibited in the paddock area or on the driver's person?

Yes, cells are prohibited in the paddock-- even I need special dispensation when I am back there doing interviews and trying to talk to the media (Darcy Egan, for instancxe) on the front side. They muist be turned off.
