Hey Giss, why would the race secretary write a condition to get Eagle See in this race? Last start in against 4 claimers, at least there was some doubt (or at least a shadow of a doubt), but tonight? C'mon She's dropping in class after going undefeated in her first five? I know she's young and still learning, but she should be stepped up to at least FMNW300PS. At this level she will be 1-5 (or worse) which makes the race unplayable, unless you're a bridge jumper. Shouldn't Northfield be encouraging wagering by offering competitive races? Thanks for listening.

Cliff, I hear you, BUT, you cannot write the conditon sheet to exclude a horse.
The nw2/$10K have always (at least recently) been combined with the nw250ps. The $4 claimers get added into the mix depending on numbers of entered in each of those three classes. Ideally, there would be three races- a nw250ps, a four claimer and a nw2/$10K.
The condition sheet stated (as usual) that event #4(the nw2/$10K) will combine with #7 and then #7 (nw250 ps AE:$4claimers) states separate claiming division if possible.
Another similar note. Saturday, Whatnartist raced in nw$400 ps and dominated, beating a pretty good one in Eagle See. He could (theoretically) have been entered in the nw$600L5 AE:nw 1 PM race in 2008-09 in his first start back had it been opened up as we have had to on occaision (it filled with straight nw1 for last night)

Thanks for the explanation. I hadn't thought about it from a horsemen's point of view. What's fair is fair, and consistency is fair to the horsemen. I should pay more attention to the condition sheets, I was under the impression they changed with regularity, apparently that's not the case so, my bad. For example, in the $3000 claimers there is a winners over $1000 last 5, and a winners under $1000 last five. In Monday's 7th it was changed to under $1200 apparently to fill the field as three of the horses would not qualify otherwise. Granted, this was a minor change, but you can see how it gives the impression that the secretary has latitude to change the conditions to include horses. I understand now that wasn't the case with Eagle See. If I've done the math correctly, we get the pleasure of watching the eaglet beat up on this class three more times before being forced to move up. Don't get me wrong, I love the horse, I just would like to be able to bet her, and that won't be the case for another month. By the way, what are her connection's options when she finally wins her way up? I can't see her with a claiming tag yet, and there's the FM Open. Am I missing another class she might qualify in? Would be a shame to see her move to another track.

I think she would go to the Meadows-- Clair races several there (I believe with Brian Zendt, could be wrong) and Dettore has PA Sire Stakes horses as well. I think Matt actually flicked her saddle pad with the whip once last night. She may be leveling off ;D
