An interesting night at the races, Saturday March 7. I'll share a few of my notes on this Sunday morning.
Race 2
#2 Spellbinder - used twice, the horse is really coming into form, should be the favorite in this class next week.
#3 Drop Of Nutmeg - roughed up at the start and again coming out, can't blame the horse, had a lot of pace at the end.
#4 Depravedhedonist - reverted to his old form, not a horse that can be counted on.
Race 3
#1 Rose Run Equal - won like a 2-5 should.
#3 Touch Of Nay - still racing exceptionally well, would have won without the ringer in the field.
Race 4
#1 Meritage Hanover - that's two breaks in a row, same thing in Indy last fall, something is wrong with the horse
#4 Noble Cruiser - in no hurry, confident, could end up in the open
#5 Irish Raider - survived a brutal front end duel, four year old in peak form
Race 5
#1 Painted Speed - still has that big move, expect him to move back up
#3 Fortune Ho - no excuse, had it his own way with soft first half fractions, then backed up in the stretch, form cycle on the decline
Race 6
#1 Fox Valley Jammin - felt sorry for this one. Kurt Sugg decided to pay back Joey Mapes for the speed duel they had in race four. He didn't try to win the race or even pick up a check, he tried to ruin Mapes and Expresso Forte with a brush to the front way before the half. Sorry, Mr Sugg, in both races Joey had the better horse. In NASCAR this kind of payback move gets the driver called to the trailer for a talk and possible fine. Wondering if that will happen here. Doubt the owner/trainer of Jammin will invite Mr. Sugg back aboard.
#5 Expresso Forte - showed his class
#3 Good Goalie - was wide for a long time in this race and still closed, will need to pay attention to this one in the future.
#4 Lakeside Al - threw in the towel early, won't see him back in the open any time soon
Race 7
#2 G Rod - the only early speed horse in the race wins another, how often to we need to see that to be a believer
#4 Liftoff Bayama - expected more, after over 200 career starts it may be he can only beat the lowest conditioners
Race 9
#1 Sparks Of Gold - may have over rated this one, couldn't make the jump
#3 Utica Hanover - plenty of pace when he finally got loose.
#4 Aritistic Dreamer - big effort first over, not a big Frank Harris fan, but I'll give him props for getting the horse out and giving him a chance
#8 BJ's Tune - confirmed again he is a one dimensional, one move pacer. Looks lost if he can't get to the top.
Race 10
#2 E C K - Merriman worked his magic in keeping this one alive in the stretch, the nine year old must have thought he was four again.
#4 Soul Redeemer - expected more, got nothing, off form
#6 Cunning Design - the outside post hurt as he had to be used twice, flattened a bit in the lane. Will give him lots of consideration in next race.
Race 11
#7 Royalton Star - tough horse, should have given him the call from the start given the lack of quality in this race
Race 12
#7 Osborne's Bullet - knew it was over when he secured the lead so easily. Small trifecta, but could have had it straight a thousand times.
Race 13 - blew the handicapping on this one big time, more on that subject in the Bet Back Book forum.
