Say Keith, do you (or anyone) have a line on Mr. O'Dwyer, driving in the eleventh Monday night. Can't say I remember ever seeing him. Thanks.

Cliff, many, many years ago, probably early 80s, Don O'Dwyer and Mitch Sahely, a couple of Canadians, spent a couple of years here and did very well. I used him a lot and he was bankable.
He reappeared here at Northfield around two years ago and did very poorly as I recall. The reason for which, I am not sure. He did not drive like he was driving to win, but again, not sure if that was because he did not have the stock or whether he no longer has the talent. He did seem to have gained a lot of weight. He has been bouncing all around North America since then, never seeming to fit in. I believe O'Dwyer captured at least one driving crown while he was here. But then again, Keith Kash Sr was also a driving champ here too.
Hope this helps.

Yes it does (help). The name has a familiar ring, but I couldn't place it. I do remember when Kash Sr. could actually win a race, but during the early eighties I was much too busy raising kids to pay that much attention to the track. He appears to be a throw away tonight, oops, I forgot, I'm not handicapping tonight.

Don O'dwyer drove in 1990 at Northfield as this record probably still stands for odd distances ..
TROTTERS
1 1/16 MILES -- Deac's Express, Don O'Dwyer - 3/30/1990, 2:08.3
1 1/4 MILES -- Bye Tsem, Thomas Williams - 10/27/2001, 2:31
1 1/2 MILES -- Spectator's Milly, Don McKirgan - 3/3/1978, 3:21.3

Also got Matt's Scooter DQd in the Battle of Lake Erie when Jaguar Spur was placed 1st. I think that was the 2nd one (Jauar win, that is) in 1989. Overall Driving Titles in 86, 87 and Painesville and Northfield meets in 85

O'Dwyer is driving #6 Rebel Cheer, a 4-year-old trotter in the first race tonight (Monday, May 4). Frank Harris has been driving this horse, but broke him in the last two races (see, I blame the driver, lol). Rebel showed good closing speed on 3/30 from the same PP and posted a 200.4 off the board finish at PPK on 2/17. Might be worth a look tonight. The Stockwell/Harris connection has posted a few surprises in the past... how about an O'Dwyer/Stockwell surprise?

0-31 lifetime, a negative post, and a past-his-prime driver, all are not encouraging, but nothing would surprise me in this race.

Cliff, I got a good look at O'Dwyer during the post parade and his abdomen is so big that he could not lean forward in the bike. But I guess your observations were valid. He's an automatic toss for me now.

Cliff, I got a good look at O'Dwyer during the post parade and his abdomen is so big that he could not lean forward in the bike. But I guess your observations were valid. He's an automatic toss for me now. Not sure there is such a thing as an auto-toss at Northfield anymore. Let's see, Monday night we had both Dan Kennedy winning a race, and Marvin Raber winning from the eight hole. We had had a trifecta composed of Keith Kash (the elder) on top, with Mr. Kennedy second, and Mr. O'Dwyer, extra poundage and all finishing third. The $2800 trifecta seemed a little light. Interesting thing about that race is that Mr. Algorithm had it called Keuken (Kennedy) first and Amati (Kash, Sr.) second. Mr. Gutless (me) wouldn't let loose of even $4 to exacta box those two. Then we have James Ducett on an 85-1 shot leaving like he is sitting behind Falcon Seelster, and mucking up the trip of my key horse of the evening, Sometimes Eternal, causing me to not only lose ground in the contest (not such a big deal), but throw away a couple hundred in real tickets (a big deal). I guess the theme of this rant is that is getting more and more difficult to wager real money on Northfield races.

Cliff, how about Quantum King Leo in the ninth at 49-1? Those exotic prices look a little low too.
Yeah, my real money went into the toilet Monday night and it's happening too frequently.

Hey guys, thanks a lot - Mr. O'Dwyer is scheduled to drive a couple of horses at my home track Friday. I don't mind Kakaley, Holliday, Fisher Jr or even a Chris Page or Troy Boring making the drive up the I-90 to Buffalo but O'Dwyer? Who's next? F Harris? Kash Sr? I guess O'Dwyer is better than Angus coming over.

Cliff, how about Quantum King Leo in the ninth at 49-1? Those exotic prices look a little low too. I was being a little facetious with the comment about the exotic payouts. Hard to say how folks who would play that race are going to wager it. All inside horses came in. It's like when the rail horse is 30-1 and finishes third. That doesn't help the payout as much as everyone plays the #1 on the ticket just because the #1 hits the board so often. As far as Quantum King Leo is concerned, I don't think the win odds refected how he may have been used in the exoctics.. Mighty Looker and Ira K were the class of the field, and one of them should have (and did) win the race. It was a typical trot where one of the favorites breaks. I wouldn't have given King Leo much of a chance to win, but he was a must play in the exotics. He rarely makes an appearance in this class since being claimed. Last start he made a decent move to get show against a couple of trotters that were not entered in this race. Besides the two favorites, none of the rest of the field, except Dublin Dollars (stuck in the second tier) have been racing all that well. Normally Robin Miller doesn't do much from the outer posts, but he had a live one in this race, and his record with trotters is better than it is with pacers. The computer rated Leo and Rose Run Freddie about equal and ahead of Dublin Dollars in this race, despite the drivers, and I would tend to agree. The results confirmed the rankings with Leo finishing second, Freddie, fourth, both ahead of $$ in fifth.

Don O'Dwyer was a very good catch driver back in the 80's. He is scheduled to drive at the Painesville fair this weekend.
