Anyone have any idea why they would be running this horse in this spot?I know the connections cannot need travel money to take this one home 4 the winter. Are there any Races coming up that they could be hanging around 4?

There are still a lot of three year old filly stakes races coming up, but nothing in Ohio (I think). I think the American Nationals is at Balmoral in November and then there are some big dollar races at the Meadowlands when they reopen. You're right, though. This is a horse that has won $259,000 in ONLY 20 lifetime starts. Why race her for the $3,750 share of the Open purse, unless it is to keep her sharp for an upcoming big purse race.

To keep her sharp? Perhaps. To pick up some loose change without much stress? Also a plausable explaination. If anyone is considering wagering this race (to pick up some loose change without much stress) you may want to rethink your strategy if the track is off. We've seen this scenario before...a stakes horse is entered in an overnighter where it overlays the field, draws (or is assigned) an outside post, the rains come and turn the track into a muddy mess...and the horse just goes through the motions. The horse's connections don't want to risk any injuries trying to win from the outside on a bad track in such a cheap (for them) event. Just something to keep in mind...I speak from experience, it can be very painful in the pocketbook.

Cleveland weather forecast for Friday calls for an all day rain. I agree with you Cliff. I don't see Van Anna's connections risking an injury on a sloppy track.

Maybe someone can tell me but isn't Van Anna a Ohio Sired? If so I'm wondering that they were keeping the horse here because of champions night. (Fairs). That's a easy 6 grand.
