In the third race Friday night (November 20) at Northfield, #9 Virtual Dream was moving behind cover at the 3/4 mark, driver Kurt Sugg decided to go three wide at that point, instead of ducking into the rail behind pace setter Game Portia. While Sugg struggled to keep forward motion on the outside, Josh Kash and Blueridge Flirting ducked inside behind Game Portia and used the inside passing lane to win the race. Had Sugg taken the hole behind Game Portia, he still might not have won the race, but he would have been ahead of the eventual winner. As it was, Virtual Dream lost ground on racing on the outside the final turn and couldn't regain momentum.

Virtual Dream is back in Friday's (11/27) 14th, drawing the rail. I really liked the mare last week, but she didn't get the kind of trip I was hoping for (see TR's description above). I always like the third back angle, and a much improved draw should help her cause. Nevertheless, I can't pull the trigger on her again. It's a wide open race (can't trust Ferris Wheel to win as a low priced favorite), and the price will be right, but with Sugg driving, it's a no brainer to keep my money in my pocket.
PS: a horse to watch (for the future) in this race is #7 Cosmetician. The horse was beating 5 and 6 claimers earlier this summer at Saratoga, has double digit Dan in the sulky, and it seems everything Fred Winstead touches turns to gold these days. Probably a start or two away.
