Chris Page, a young driver who migrated to Northfield after Scioto Downs closed, has demonstrated some talent as a teamster. However, last night he showed that he still has some things to learn. Driving a Virgil Morgan-trained Icaria Beach (7-1), Page easily got the lead going to the quarter, ceded the front to Mark Headworth and Sassy L Lynn and stalked the leader the rest of the way. At the 3/4 mark, Icaria Beach had her nose right on Headworth's helmet, seemingly eager to rev up the engines. But Page sat behind Headworth until the final turn before tipping to the outside and attempting to rally. That maneuver might have worked at Scioto, where the stretch goes on forever, but in this case, Page lost by a nose/head. I know, it's easy to second guess but I think this was a lost opportunity.

Disagree a bit here. First, Icaria Beach is a bit of a rat and has show she is unwilling to pass horses in her brief career. To pull at 3/4 and have her out around the final turn would have assured Headworth the win. By sitting in, he saves gorund and has an in or out option coming out of the turn. Just did not work out.

I think thegiss has this one right (I could make some sort of wisecrack here, but in the holiday spirit I'll let it go ). I've never been impressed with the horse, and I think Page got all he could out of her.

I know But for me a rat is different than a cheap horse. Krissy K is no rat. She is a cheap horse. A rat is a horse (often with ability) who does not try. And technically Chris migrated here after Colonial closed, because there was better money there than here
