Just purchased a USB turntable to convert all of my vinyl 45s and albums into digital files. Turntable is an Audio-Technica AT-LP60-USB automatic stereo turntable, purchased from J&R Music in New York. This is a NEW model, just released in January of this year. This USB turntable connects directly to one's computer with a USB cable. To convert vinyl records to digital format you'll need to use the Audacity software that comes with the turntable. To convert the Audacity files to MP3 files, you need to download a "LAME MP3 encoder" from the internet. All fairly easy, even for a Trackrat.
Did a test run tonight, playing the Irish Rovers' "Wasn't That a Party" [appropriate music for St. Patrick's Day] on the turntable, recorded it in digital format on Audacity, converted it to MP3, burned it onto a CD and took it out to the car to make sure it played on the car stereo. Mission accomplished!!
Now the fun begins.
Because all of the vinyl records need to be recorded in REAL TIME, this is a laborious, time consuming project since the Trackrat has tons of vinyl records (yeah, I'm THAT old). Some of the albums are out of print and not available on CDs, so this digital conversion is pretty cool.
Rock on!!

Taylor, actually the turntable was about $110 (with shipping), which is peanuts compared to the 99 cents per song that I would have had to pay Itunes or Amazon.com to download digital versions of each tune that I am digitizing.
