Monday Night, April 26, 2010 Recap: It took less than two minutes on Monday night for this month's contest to take on a new complexion with a runaway leader, Cliff, the guru of Northfield Park handicappers, taking a commanding lead with only two programs remaining. Cliff bet $100 to win on #7 GE's Antonio in the seventh race and keyed the same horse in a superfecta wheel. Cliff's pick was ninth at the quarter, eighth at the half, fourth at the 3/4 but came storming home almost a full second faster than the rest of the field to win by a quarter length in 157.1 at 12-1 odds. Cliff's win wager paid $1340 (50 x $26.80) and the superfecta paid a whopping $7107.60 on the $1 base wager.
In other wagering action, Hundredtowin cashed two $100 win tickets, one in the third race for $200 and one in the ninth race for $140. Trackrat cashed a $10 trifecta box wager in the eighth for $196 (5 x $39.20).
Good luck to everyone on Friday night's Fillies and Mares card.

Tuesday Night, April 27, 2010 Recap: For the second night in a row, one of our handicapping crew racked up a multi-thousand dollar profit with a 12-1 shot on the front end. This time, Scojer placed a $50 WP wager on #6 Theetownlittleguy in the ninth race and also included him in a $5 five horse trifecta box. Scojer recovered $905 on his WP wager and $4105.50 (2.5 x $1642.20) on his trifecta bet for a total of $5010.50 on the night. He vaults over everyone else into second place in the April contest, but still five grand behind Cliff.
Jimhorseman just missed taking control of the contest with his seventh race wager. Jim bet a $100 exacta with the #3 over the #1-4. The race result came in 3-4-1 and Jim collected $1560 (50 x $31.20). If Jim had used the same post positions, but made his wager a trifecta wager instead of an exacta wager, the wager would have cost the same, but he would have collected $13,830, passing Cliff for the lead. But as the poet John Greenleaf Whittier once said: For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.' Just remember Jim, it's only make-believe money.
Good luck on Friday night's contest finale as the Fillies and Mares go postward on what should be a fairly warm Spring evening with temperatures in the sixties.

Friday Night, April 30, 2010 Recap: Time ran out for Cliff's challengers as both The Believer and Therealmuljuice cashed large trifecta wagers Friday night but could not overcome the guru's contest lead. The Believer had $100 worth of winning trifecta tickets in the third race, using #2 Fantastic Fran on top. Trainer Fred Winstead's 6-year-old Cambest mare went gate to wire in 155.1, tying her lifetime best for the third time in the last four races. Therealmuljuice posted a $50 trifecta box (1-3-9) in the eighth race that resulted in a payout of $3310 (25 x $132.40) as Aaron Merriman chaufferred #3 Medoland Taranicol home on top of #1 She's So and #9 Cams Beach Beauty. The winning horse is a $5K claimer shipping in from The Meadows where she had been overmatched, falling into this bottom level NW600 class. She came first over at the half, taking a 5 length lead at the 3/4 and held off a rally by She's So, the overwhelming betting favorite.
Good luck to everyone on Saturday's card. The weather calls for temperatures around 80 and a chance of thunderstorms.
