Friday Night, April 9, 2010 Recap: There was a brief return to winter racing last night but the hot chocolate machine was working and handicapping was good for three of our veteran board members. Therealmuljuice and Trackrat struck early and often as both cashed a $1 trifecta in the first race for $1359.80, using 23-1 three-year-old filly trotter Yesternite on top of their exotic tickets. Trainer/driver Scott Cox sat patiently until after the halfway mark and went three wide approaching the 3/4 mark to circle the field and trot home in 201.4 for the victory. Therealmuljuice added a $10 trifecta in the third race for $248, a $50 exacta in the sixth race for $320 and a $1 trifecta in the tenth race for an additional $39.10, hauling home a total of $1966.90 for the night.
Trackrat added a $1 trifecta in the seventh race for $123.60 and a straight $20 trifecta in the eleventh race for $210, for a total of $1693.40 on the night. The Believer had $30 worth of winning trifecta tickets on the 5-3-1 combination in the tenth race for $1173 (15 x $78.20) to add to his April contest lead.
Aaron Merriman continues to lead all North American harness drivers, racing afternoons at The Meadows in Washington, PA and at Northfield Park in the evenings. Look for a slight warmup today, into the 60s in Northeast Ohio, with a dry track tonight. Northfield is doing a great job with the renovation of the ground floor area at the track with new flat screen, high definition tvs, betting carrels and standup areas with plenty of counter space. Hopefully, they have plans to renovate the betting carrels in the clubhouse restaurant and upgrade the table top tv sets. Good luck on tonight's card.
