Saturday Night, May 1, 2010 Recap: Not content to sit on his laurels, Cliff picked up right where he left off after winning the April handicapping contest. Cliff cashed a $50 win ticket on #3 Willie N Blaze in the second race for $445 (25 x $17.80) and a $100 win ticket on #9 Kinnick in the eighth race for $250 (50 x $5.00) for a total of $695 in first night winnings. Surpassing Cliff in net winnings last night, Trackrat grabs the early contest lead with a $1 SF box in the fourth race worth $335.40 and a $10 trifecta box in the fifth race worth $237 (5 x $47.40). Jimhorseman, not exactly "Looking at Lucky" last night, nevertheless cashed a $20 exacta for $188 in the fifth race.
With the weather warming up, we should see some three year olds returning to the track for their sophomore campaigns and some two year olds making their racing debuts. Should make for some interesting, if not frustrating, wagering opportunities. Early on, Trackrat looks for reputable barns and breeding, but usually keeps his money in his pocket for proven commodities. Good luck on Monday night's card.

Monday Night, May 3, 2010 Recap: TV game show host Bob Barker would have been right at home last night at Northfield Park as The Price (was) Right to make some money on the parimutuel payouts, with nine exactas paying over $50 and eleven trifectas paying over $200. When the mutuels are consistently high throughout the entire program, it generally means that our handicapping crew is not doing too well and that was the case last night. A hodge podge of catch drivers filled in for the absent Dan Charlino last night.
Therealmuljuice eked out a small profit with a $5 trifecta in the third race for $106 (2.5 x $42.40) and a $1 trifecta in the fourth race for $125.20. Jimhorseman's $50 PS wager in the fifth race was good for $385 (25 x composite $15.40), while Harness27 got back $16 for his $10 place wager in the first race.
Good luck to everyone on Tuesday night's card.

Friday Night, May 7, 2010 Recap: Turbulent weather blew through Northeastern Ohio Friday night with high winds and heavy rainfall turning the track from "fast" to "sloppy" between the seventh and eighth races. Jimhorseman was the quickest out of the gate, nailing a $40 early daily double for $168 (20 x $8.40) but then cooled off the rest of the program. Cliff cashed two $100 win wagers in the third (PC's Exotica) and the tenth (Sister Rae) while also cashing a $1 SF wager in the tenth race for a total of $928.70 on the night. Therealmuljuice fashioned a winning $10 trifecta box in the fourth race for $1020, while Trackrat had a straight $50 trifecta in the first race for $290 (25 x $11.60).
Therealmuljuice takes an early contest lead with $3035.20 in his bankroll but Cliff is lurking just below the $2800 mark.

Saturday Night, May 8, 2010 Recap: A cold, windy rain stayed in the area last night turning a good track into a sloppy track by the fifth race. The Fall-like weather paralleled our handicapping acumen which also cooled off this weekend. Like the Federal government, our group spent more money than we took in Saturday night. Hundredtowin spent $500 to get back $190 as only one of his $100 win wagers produced a winner, #4 Bodandy Andy in the eighth race. Harness27 cashed four winning wagers but collected only $73.20 on his $132 outlay. And finally, contest leader Therealmuljuice cashed a $1 trifecta in the second race for $91.80.
Look for cooler temperatures to stick around for a while but the track should be dry on Monday night. The Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Boston Celtics in game #4 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals this afternoon at 3:30PM. Go Cavs!!

Monday Night, May 10, 2010 Recap: On an evening punctuated by a light payout on the eighth race trifecta, Trackrat was the only contest capper to realize a profit, cashing $1 trifectas in the second race for $385.70 and in the third race for $30.50. Kangaroox almost got back to even steven with $354.90 in trifecta and superfecta winnings in the seventh race, against his $359 outlay. Hundredtowin cashed a $100 place wager in the ninth race for $180, while Cliff cashed a $100 win wager in the tenth race for $170. Finally, Harness27 cashed a $10 place wager in the third race for $21.
A third of the way home in May's handicapping contest and Trackrat takes the lead with $2838.60 in his bankroll, with four other contenders still holding onto at least $2000. Lots of opportunties remain. Good luck on Friday's Fillies and Mares night. Look for the classic car rally at Mr. Chicken, across the street from the race track, appearing every Friday night until November, weather permitting.

Friday Night, May 14, 2010 Recap: With his bankroll diminishing faster than the Cavaliers' shot at the NBA championship, Kangaroox marched to the cashier's window with $12 worth of winning trifecta tickets in the third race Friday night, good for $2042.40. The winning combination of #8 Enticing Attack over #5 Funny Lena over #2 On The Money paid $340.40 on a $2 wager. Cliff cashed $75 win wagers in the twelfth and thirteenth races for $345 and $165, respectively.
Good luck to everyone in the week leading up to the Courageous Lady Pace next Saturday night.

Saturday Night, May 15, 2010 Recap: A lot of good trotmen have passed through Northfield Park but current patrons are entertained (and enriched) nightly by the soft hands of Dan Charlino, who drove the lead trotter in both of Trackrat's trifecta wins last night. Charlino piloted Little Old LadyWho to a win in the fifth race against mostly geldings and came back in the eighth race with Sandblast, keying $1 trifectas worth $238.90 and $335.80, respectively. Cliff cashed a $100 win wager on #3 Polo Joe in the ninth race for $390, while Harness27 cashed four minor wagers for $73 on the night.
Good luck to everyone on Monday night's card.

Monday Night, May 17, 2010 Recap: It was the Cliff Gregory Show Monday night as our handicapping guru vaulted back into the handicapping contest lead with $1215.40 in winnings against an outlay of $290. Cliff cashed a $100 win ticket on #1 Whiteascanbe in the fourth race and then used the 4-1 shot as his lead horse in the superfecta for another $475.40. He finished up the night with a $50 late daily double hit on the 2/5 combination for another $240 (25 x $9.60).
Good luck to everyone on Friday night's Fillies and Mares program. Rain is expected in the area this evening.

Friday Night, May 21, 2010 Recap: Showing some of his "back class" in handicapping, Kangaroox cashed a $10 trifecta in the second race for $2328 (5 x $465.60) with #3 Precious Lass over #1 Scooters Clan over #4 Cruizin at Dawn. The winner, a 6-year-old mare by Precious Bunny out of the Abercrombie mare Topsy's Lass, posted a lifetime best of 157.2 for driver Robin Miller. Therealmuljuice had a nice night, cashing one $10 trifecta in the fourth race for $307 and two $50 exactas for $250 and $215 in the seventh and tenth races, respectively.
Cliff lost a little ground last night (and the contest lead) but did cash a $70 win ticket on #6 Shelby's Muneymaker in the fifth race for $189 (35 x $5.40). Jimhorseman was swinging for the fences but fell a tad shy with a seventh race superfecta worth $151.70, a few dollars short of his adjusted $154 wagering outlay. The Believer avoided tapping out with a $56 win ticket on #1 Silky Sailor in the seventh race, collecting $84 (28 x $3).
Krissy K posted her second straight trotting triumph for owner/trainer/driver John Green in winning the twelfth race at 17-1 odds. Green took advantage of two inside scratches and two inside horses breaking stride to storm right to the lead, holding on for the win over 58-1 Fly Thru the Wall and 52-1 Oceana Hanover. Green claimed Krissy K for $3000 a month ago and she has won $2200 since then, proving that the 10-year-old mare still has a lot of trot left in her. She has won over $42,000 in her last sixty starts, averaging over $700 per start.
Good luck to everyone on Saturday night's $109,000 Courageous Lady pace for three-year-old fillies, the twelfth race on Northfield's 14-race-program. It will rain early in the day but should be cleared up by post time.

Monday Night, May 24, 2010 Recap: We're down to the last three programs in the May handicapping contest and as usual, Cliff sits atop the leader board with $4245.10 after logging $586 in net winnings Monday night. His $100 win wager on #2 Storm Buster in the fourth race was good for $710 (50 x $14.20). Jimhorseman has come alive in the last two nights of racing with three winning wagers Monday night for $915. Kangaroox cashed on the third race trifecta for $124.80 and a $10 exacta in the ninth race for $41.
Looking ahead to Friday night, the Fillies and Mares program will include several races that are not exclusively for the "girls" of the standardbreds. Good luck to our remaining contest handicappers and Cliff, be sure to tell the Giss where you want that cap delivered.

Saturday Night, May 29, 2010 Recap: Not much positive action at the windows this weekend and subsequently Cliff wraps up his fourth monthly handicapping win in the last six contests, a dominating performance from a proven champion. On the final night of the May contest, only Kangaroox saw the cashier's window with a $40 exacta and a $10 trifecta in the first race worth $172 and $266, respectively. The marsupial one hangs on for a second place finish in the May handicapping contest.
Good luck to everyone in the June contest, which begins next Friday, June 4. We're looking at maybe taking July or August off from the contest (and maybe both months) so guys can take vacations or work on the house or go to handicapping school.
