The Trackrat ventured out to Northfield for the first time in months on Friday night, prompted by the prospect of better racing stock with OSS action. Was rewarded with a $1 trifecta in the eighth race worth $823.90, but it took a disqualification of the place finisher #4 Triple G (from second to fifth) for the Trackrat to step up to the cashier's window.
The aforementioned Triple G at 30-1 showed some surprising talent in cutting the mile to the half, relinquishing the lead and then regaining it at the 3/4 and then getting nosed out at the wire. Unfortunately for driver Harold thingy, he interferred with the #1 horse when regaining the lead at the 3/4.
And, to make the evening even more rewarding, the concession stand actually had hot chocolate on Friday night and the machine was actually working. I might have to go back to that place again.

Trackrat's reward on the 8th race disqualification probably came at the cost of someone else who was not happy about the DQ.
Jimhorseman also ventured out last night to try the pick 4 carryover. In the first leg he only used the 4 and 5. In the race he bet a trifecta 45/45/all. Jim was rooting hard for Harold thingy to hang on with the 4 horse at 30-1 and was sure he hung on. Alas, it was not to be as the outside bias made the photo finish result 5-4-7. It was hard to be too upset as the tri still had a $9 to $10 winner with Harold thingy at 30 to 1 running second and the longest shot in the race at 55-1 running third. His estimated several thousand dollar trifecta was then yanked on; in my very biased opinion, a very questionable call. One man in Cleveland happy, one man in Buffalo not so much.
To make matters worse in the second leg of the pick 4 I used the 1,2,5. The 2 and 5 hooked in a speed duel and Jim Dailey on the 1 horse was in the pocket in perfect position. At the 3/4 pole the favorite 7 horse made a three wide bid but has hanging. I was rooting for the rail horse at 9-1 to beat the 5-2 horse leading up the passing lane. To my utter shock Jim Dailey pulled from the pocket on the final turn and ended up on the outside behind a horse (the 5) who was hung the mile. The 9 horse quickly moved from third on the rail to Dailey's pocket position. Dailey had a ton of horse but the 5 backed into him and the 7 was also backing up outside Dailey so he was stuck. The 9 comes up the passing lane to win costing me a pick 4. If I was the owner of the rail horse Dailey was driving; Show Me Glory, I would have been furious with the drive. He went from a sure win in an over $20K race to getting nothing. It also cost me the pick 4 as I had the other legs. Keep an eye on Show Me Glory in the next start as the line looks deceivingly bad.
A frustrating way to end July.

Actually, he interfered with the 9, Cool Colby at three quarters. Giss, what race were you watching? There was no #9 in this race, either Cool Colby or any other name. Jimhorseman, to tell you the truth, I did not see the interference when it occurred, but the head-on replay shows the #1 jumping off stride as the #4 slips outside at the 3/4. Sure, it could have been a coincidence. But racing for a $15,000 purse probably resulted in a little more scrutiny than usual from the Northfield judges. Either way, I was overdue for a "break" myself, no pun intended.

Either way, I was overdue for a "break" myself, no pun intended. I stand corrected...right dirver (Jim Dailey) but confused his horses. It's been a long week. Sorry, rat. Cool Colby broke in the same spot, but did it on his own. It was an easy call, frankly. Was surprised our judges took as long as they did. It appeared to us that they made contact, but thingy (I typed it that way ;D) clearly put a wheel under Dailey. I want to test the censoring software here (forgive the diversion). Popular high school in Ohio girls soccer- Milford. Gets blocke by a lot of software. I wonder what may happen.
