Keith:
I am one of the many regular viewers of the "Smoking with the Giss" blog on the Northfield Park website. There was a separate entry for the National Pick Four betting option presented tonight. Congratulations on nailing it. A big winner to begin on a horse you loved at the Meadowlands, a double digit winner at Yonkers combined with a couple of shorter priced winners produced over $1,800 for a dollar. I hope you played what you posted. Oh, and don't worry for if you did cash that bet I'll make sure not to tell your wife.....err.....not that I wouldn't tell my wife about a big hit.

I had it for a buck. The late scratch at Bmp cost me probably 20%, but at least 10%. My public posting also cost me a big piece-- of $26 cashed, I can account that $6-- $4 at Northfield, $1 that a good friend bet on line, and mine, were at least partially becuase of my picks. Also received an e-mail from a reader who claims he played my numbers. So, that means 25% of the tickets were partially due to my posting.
The worst part is my comment about Sky Tantrum- Won't be 15 (his ML). If he is, I am betting him to win too. He was. I didn't.
This is not the kind of play I usually make.. I am a grinder and believe it or not this is the third largest ticket I have ever hit.

Nice to hear you had the ticket for the dollar. Being a public handicapper seems similar to being a weatherman as everyone will let you know when you are wrong. Perhaps hitting this pick four will remind people how often the picks are accurate. It was interesting that your blog about the wager ended up costing you, as at least one quarter of the winners come back to that writing. I've had people ask if I give my "real picks" when doing the handicapping contest on this board. My answer has always been; (sadly lately) they are my real picks and generally my real wagers. My ego is not so inflated that I think there are people around the country sitting by their computer waiting to see what Jim from Buffalo thinks about a few Northfield races.
That said I do have one amusing story. I have a couple of friends that I go to the racetrack with virtually every weekend. One of my friends is named Jack. A couple of years ago when I first joined the board and entered the contest good fortune/beginners luck took hold and I won two consecutive months. Jack and I were at Buffalo Raceway when he spotted a mutal friend nicnamed Doc. We said hello and Doc asked; "Hey I know you guys always bet Northfield, anything you like today?" I gave him my opinion on a couple of races and Doc said "Wow, I think those are the same races and horses this internet guy I follow likes." He told Jack he stumbled on this new Northfield Handicapping Board and he has been following this new guy"Jimhorseman" who has been really hot. The look on Jack's face was priceless. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. Jack didn't know if Doc was putting him on but he had this look of "are you kidding me" in a kind of blank stare. Finally Jack blurted out "Doc you idiot, this is Jimhorseman. You're following the same guy you've seen at the track the last 20 years." Doc of course was beat red, Jack was dumbfounded and two years later I still needle Doc every so often. Of course Doc gives it right back stating I haven't had a winning month since 2008 but I guess the point is you never know who reads what is publically posted.

Whenever I am at the track, I introduce myself as "Cliff from the handicapping board". The rest of the night, I get free beers and sexy women giving me their hotel keys. Yeah, right.
The way I have been picking them, I should go to the track with a bag over my head, like the Unknown Comic
