Yonkers has been racing for the last 3 or 4 weeks a distance of 1 1/16 miles rather than the standard 1 mile.
It is very hard to handicap since there is no history but it sure has changed the outcome of the races.
What I want to know is how much difference is it to train a horse for that extra 1/16 mile? How long would it take to get the horse fully trained? Any pattern to watch?

Gtapp, way back when Northfield's purses were competitive with Yonkers and Yonkers was racing odd distances over one mile, I had some luck betting Yonker shippers who came into Northfield, figuring that they would be better conditioned horses, all other things being equal.
