What a great night Tyler Smith had Wed. 4 wins.
Just wondered what the rule is on when a provisional driver is no longer provisional. I thought it was based on a certain amount of wins but not sure of that. Wondered how close he was to getting there.
No doubt, as Giss suggested, he is going to be a good one for a lot of years.

Licensing Drivers must have an active membership with the USTA as well as a driving license. There are several classes of driver's licenses. Matinee, special license and qualifying-fair licenses are issued for amateur races and some qualifying races. When the driver receives 12 qualifying drives within 12 months, he is eligible for a provisional license. A full license is issued when the driver with a provisional license completes 25 pari-mutuel starts in 12 months or 50 starts if the driver has less than 1 year of experience. If the driver has violated the rules of racing, he may receive a conditional license. Drivers must be 12 years old to receive a matinee license, 16 to receive a qualifying-fair license and 18 for provisional and full licenses. Trainers are also required to maintain an active membership and a training license. Trainers may obtain a general license. This is a full license to train horses. A limited license allows the holder to train any horses owned by the holder. A conditional license is given to a trainer who has violated the rules of the USTA. Trainers must be at least 18 years old and pass a written exam. Read more: Rules of Harness Racing | eHow.com www.ehow.com/list_6716567_rules-harness-racing.html#ixzz1HZhCPcFk

Based on this wouldn't Tyler already have qualified for a full license? I believe he already has over 200 drives.
Couple of the boys in my corner think he is not a good bet because he has that P by his name.
Guess they don't see what I see.

You must hold your P for a full calendar year before getting your A.
Also, regarding the minimum number of drives, they must be satisfactory drives, as determined by the judges. Otherwise I would have my A ;D. It also must be requested to the Presiding Judge by the driver.

Thanks for the reply. I now now the P situation. I have given up on this board. Don't seem to get replies to any discussion issues or questions. I check it a couple times daily but there is nothing going on here.
What can be done to get it going again? Open it up to discussions of selected other tracks? Put up discussion issues to generate interest? How can we get the regulars back?
Sure miss you, Giss, at the track. Glad your picks are still there with the programs. Don't know where Ayers gets his picks. (think he may draw #'s from a box) but he sure makes some strange selections.

So what happened to young Tyler Smith? He was just coming into his own and now he hasn't been around for a few weeks.
Is he racing somewhere else already?

I know Ty Smith is just a teenager, so maybe he's more comfortable racing "at home", but Dan Noble who I think is in his late 20s was totally dominating Northfield and he gives that up to go back to Lebanon? And watching Saturday night's racing from Lebanon, Noble seems overmatched (or under-horsed) against those farmers down there. Or does Noble commute to the Indiana tracks?
