In Re: Friday's nineth race. Here is a trotter ( Little Old Ladywho) I isolated and have been touting for the past two weeks. She breaks in her first start from the second tier, and from the rail in her last start couldn't get up to beat Anastasia Broadway. Now, the horse draws the dreaded eight hole, Merriman gets off, and the horse beats a sixty cent favorite at 70-1. The subject line says it all. Note to Cliff: stop trying try to figure out trotters. There is not enough time left in your life to get it right. Some mysteries of the universe man just isn't meant to know.

Hey Cliff...I concur with your statement on trotters. Little Old Ladywho is just another example of why handicapping trotters is basically folly (especially at Northfield)....though, I still love to bet on the trotters only because of the payouts and attempting to guess (yes, guess) which horse(s) is apt to break.

One thing about trotters- you MUST watch them warm up, imo. Trotter show tendencies much more than pacers...esepcailly young uns. And I am not talking the scoring in the post parade (although that helps, too) but their actual warm-up. On etrip or two? Right awy of th etrack? Steering well in first turn? At end of mile? Change of warmup style?
This has saved me a lot of money over the years and has also given me a few goo dplays. This is especially important for diagonal-gaiters coming from big tracks and for barn changers.
Keep your eyes open!
