Hard to find tonight. You know that to be true if you've noticed my key horse in the contest is a maiden. I know what you're thinking, and I would agree, but I've watched the replays of all that horse's races, and let me say he has a very strong brush which could leave this bunch eating dust (or mud) if he is right.
It also happens that fits exactly with Ryan Angus' preferred driving style. We saw it last week with County Mayo (how come I didn't have that one at 15-1 ), and if you've watched him drive Ice Cream Stand the last couple years you might agree he loves to use that horse in exactly the same way.
If the morning line holds, the risk/reward will be there for a play.
The value may be in the early double. The change to Troy Boring on Eagle Dream may finally get the colt to the winners circle, the 8 hole notwithstanding. Troy has done some of his best work on trotters and has driven this one once before. He gave the trotter an "eventful" trip from the six hole in his fourth lifetime start earlier this summer. Four wide on the final turn, Troy decided not to push the horse, backed off, and moved back inside. He then brought the horse back outside, and trotted past a couple to finish fourth even though his momentum has been slowed. The next week with Brett Miller in the bike, he finished a strong second, beaten a neck by Master Charmer who has gone on to bigger and better things.
I say the value may be in the double because Eagle Dream has been the (beaten) favorite in his last four with Clair driving. The Northfield bettors love to jump on driver changes, so he may well be the favorite again tonight. If Troy gives the trotter any trip at all I think he will prevail. Another I like with the recent barn change is Magic Star Mom. However the second tier will almost guarantee road trouble, and Barb Lewis wins most of her races on the front end anyway, so I have to discount this one's chances just a bit.
Good Luck Tonight
